# Collections and search

Collection pages, filters, quick filters, predictive search and result tabs.

## Collection pages

**Collection products** shows the grid with filtering and sorting in a drawer or a sidebar, one-tap quick filter chips, price band chips and promo tiles. Choose infinite scroll, load more or page numbers.

Filters come from Shopify's free **Search & Discovery** app. Turn on Availability, Product type, Format and any color metafields there.

Shopify shows no filters on very large collections (about 25,000 products and up). Split those into smaller collections, or use the collection's **Shop by** link row to send shoppers to narrower ones.

## Collection cards

The **Collection list** section shows collection cards or links. A collection with no image of its own uses its first product with a square cover, so a wide product photo never gets cropped on the card. Set a **Custom image** on the card to choose the art yourself.

## Predictive search

Predictive search suggests artists, products, collections, pages and articles as shoppers type. Toggle each in **Theme settings > Search**.

* **Search departments** adds a department picker to the search box, such as Vinyl, CDs, Cassettes, Movies. One per line: `Label | product types separated by ;`. Product type must be turned on as a filter in Search & Discovery for results pages to narrow.
* In the header, **Popular searches menu** and **Best sellers collection** fill the search panel before anything is typed.

## Search results

The results page splits into **All**, **Records**, **Stories** and **Pages**, each with a count. All shows records first, then a row of story cards, then pages. Each tab is a plain link, so it works without JavaScript. Results have the same filters, quick filters and pagination options as collections.
