# Release data

Tell Gatefold which metafields hold artist, label, format, edition and release date.

Records need more than a title and a price. Gatefold reads artist, label, format, edition and release date from product metafields. You tell it where to look in **Theme settings > Release data**, as `namespace.key`.

You can list several, separated by commas: the first one with a value wins. Anything left empty is simply not shown. Release dates are also checked on the selected variant.

| Setting | Default | Type | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Artist | `music.artist` | single line text | The artist name. Shown above the title on cards and product pages, linked to search, and suggested in predictive search. |
| Album title | `music.album_title` | single line text | The album name on its own, without format words. Used for clean titles in cards, Notify me and offers. |
| Record label | `music.label` | single line text | The record label, shown in the title block and release details and linked to search. |
| Release date | `custom.release_date` | date | Decides whether a product is a pre-order. A future date means pre-order, a past date means released. This always beats badges and tags. |
| Badge text | `custom.badge` | single line text | A badge such as "Pre-order" for products with no release date. Ignored when a date exists. |
| Formats and editions | `custom.release_members` | list of product references | Links every edition of the same album (black vinyl, colored vinyl, CD, cassette). The product page shows them as switchable editions. |
| Format | `music.format`, `vinyl.format` | single line text ("2LP") | The physical format. When empty, the theme uses the disc count, then words in the description such as "Double vinyl". |
| Disc count | `music.disc_count`, `vinyl.disc_count` | integer | Turns "LP" into "2LP" or "CD" into "3CD" when no format text is set. |
| Edition | `custom.edition`, `vinyl.edition` | text or list | Deluxe, Anniversary, Indie Exclusive and so on. Added to format labels so shoppers can tell editions apart. |
| Vinyl colors | `vinyl.colors`, `custom.vinyl_color`, `custom.pressing`, `custom.color` | list of single line text | The pressing color, such as Ruby or Clear. |
| Pressing features | `vinyl.features`, `custom.features` | list of single line text | Extras such as 180g, gatefold, signed. The first one is added to labels. |
| Tracklist | `custom.tracklist` | text, list or rich text | Shown by the Tracklist block on the product page. |
| Pinned upsell offers | `custom.upsell_popup_pins` | list of product references | Products offered first before checkout for this product. |

Three more fields sit in the same group:

* **Credit when there is no artist:** a studio or brand for films, gear and merch.
* **Format note:** one line per format.
* **Pre-order tags:** used only when a product has no release date.

**Show New Release badge for** sets how many days after release a product counts as new.

{% hint style="info" %}
Gatefold never adds the release year to format labels. Editions are told apart by format, edition, color and feature, so "2LP / Deluxe / Ruby" rather than "2LP 2024".
